A few words of common sense and advice from Jack, a guy who has been around a while:
Don’t trust anyone who says they know how you should lead your life. They should not be sticking their nose in other people’s business. And, you shouldn’t either.
When I was growing up there were only a handful of TV stations to watch. Made it a hell of a lot easier to choose from. Advice: try to reduce the number of decisions you make each day, it’ll make your life easier.
My wife tells me I could stand to lose a few pounds. I say, “Hey, if I said that to you, I would be taking up permanent residency in the garage.” The point: sometimes life isn’t fair.
Always order a beer that is on tap.
People who believe in conspiracy theories either have too much time on their hands or are batshit crazy. My advice: stay busy and don’t be batshit crazy.
Make sure there is a comfortable place to sit in your house and never take it for granted. Don’t take a lot of things for granted.
When you get to a certain age you can stop listening to people and blame it on your hearing aids. What’s the lesson learned here? There are advantages to getting old, not many, but some.
In my day, facts were considered facts. Now, facts are what someone wants to believe. My advice: don’t be stupid.
You know the saying “time speeds up when you get older”? Try going to the DMV to get your license renewed. Disproves that saying, right? Lesson learned here? There’s always an exception to every rule.
Grandchildren are nature’s way of showing your kids you were smarter than they thought.
Why is the best tasting food usually bad for you? Like I said earlier, life isn’t fair. Have you been paying attention?
Nobody wants to hear about some little ache or minor problem you have. My advice: if you are still on this earth, be happy.
Don’t get all worked up about every little thing that goes wrong on any given day. Do you think that little annoyance is going to be something you remember in your final moments? Of course not. My advice: save your energy on the things that truly matter.
Here’s my final bit of advice for you: when someone has been giving you advice, especially someone older and wiser, pick up their tab.
